A Ministry of Personal Encouragement
There are countless individuals in need of comfort and prayer due to the endless number of trials presented to us in this life. While each person has different personal experiences many of the over all experiences are similar. By pairing an individual who is hurting with one who has overcome a similar trial, the individual receives a level of understanding over and above that which he might receive if the comforter had not experienced a similar trial. There are many people who either do not have a church home or for some reason do not feel comfortable sharing their pain with their church. These people are searching for comfort and receive the love of Jesus Christ through an Overcomers’ Personal Encourager Member.
We train lay people to pray for, comfort and encourage those who are facing life’s trials. The Personal Encourager Team members are trained in the areas of listening, knowing what not to say, prayer and when to share their story. This training allows a Personal Encourager Member to come along side those who are hurting by communicating directly through Email and over the phone when appropriate. Through their faith in Jesus Christ, a Personal Encourager will share God’s love. They will show comfort through Him that has comforted us. Where possible Personal Encourager Members will be paired with someone going through a similar trial they have personally overcome. Personal Encourager Members share the good news and comfort others through the use of shared scriptures and prayer.
The Personal Encourager Coordinator screens individuals by asking a series of questions, thus determining the person’s needs. The Coordinator will assign the individual a Personal Encourager Member with whom to work. The Personal Encourager Member will keep documentation of all contact with the individual. The Personal Encourager Coordinator will supervise member’s actions through weekly review. The member will follow up with their assigned individual on a regimented basis.
Assessment of the program is made through the number of people directly and indirectly touched by the Overcomers’ Personal Encourager Team and by any individual who comes to Christ as a direct result of working with a Personal Encourager Member. All individuals have the opportunity to share their Overcomers experiences with us through survey evaluation and through postings on our website.
